Daisy Undercuffler, the artist, lives in Harlem.
White Silence expresses her insight into the conflicts of 2020.
White Silence depicts a city on fire, dark arms reaching out of the flames, beseeching, reaching for help. Billowing clouds of smoke reflect the horror below. In the distance, a dark void appears, like a voracious mouth, pulling everything within its sphere into destruction.
Stitched into the canvas is the image of a small white woman flying a kite. She is made of old paper and standing in the middle of the fire. Her right heel is already singed, her face remains inscrutable. The kite evokes a calm, sunny afternoon.
