Painting in Fort Tryon Park and Central Park North

The Harlem Meer just inside Central Park North.

This painting of The Harlem Meer began as a plein air piece however, sadly; I ran out of daylight. I took a number of photos at about 4pm on 11/8, as I was wrapping up my supplies. I finished this piece based on my own photos in my Harlem studio on Thanksgiving day. With all of this time to consider this work in progress, I decided to add myself and my beloved Blue as figures by the pond. I lost this great love of mine on May 11th 2021. He was almost 16 and we were together all of those years. The most handsome and sweet pitbull on the planet… there we are watching the ducks on the pond. I will remember him for the rest of my life. My dearest love, my Blue.

It was 42 degrees Fahrenheit. After a summer in the New Mexico mountains I felt prepared for anything… now I’m considering warming fingerless gloves. Here I am wearing a friends new clothing label, The Ability.. check them out here- https://instagram.com/theability.co?utm_medium=copy_link
I am determined to paint outdoors all winter. It’ll be interesting to see how this goes IRL. Cold, I imagine, but I keep thinking of Claude Monet painting the frozen Seine over and over the entire winter after Camille died.. cold plein air painting does have a special voice. I am planning a very cold winter in New York City.

Ft. Tryon Park

In gorgeous Fort Tryon park on 11/15/21. My dear friend, artist photographer Carol Forman, http://tiny.cc/qazluz and I wandered the many paths around the autumnal paradise of Ft. Tryon on this chilly Monday waiting for inspiration to strike. I became enamored with this view thru the leaves to the city below. It did take long for me to realize that the empty park bench was compositionally imperative to understand the view in context. The bench is a comforting anchor at the base of this small painting.

This is where my head was during the month of November. Stay tuned for more of my plein air adventures this winter in NYC. Help me pray for luminous snow days and heated gloves.
