The sun rose.

The sun rose over Sweetwater pond that February morning. It’s rosy glow slowly banished the blue grey frost off of the grass and it felt as if all the color was coming back into the world. I was sitting on my “meditation” bench under the trees. I call it my meditation bench because it sounds all wise and serene but, mostly I just go there to drink coffee and space out. This particular morning I had munched on some Mexican Candy while I waited for the kettle to boil. You know the kind, de la Rosa. I could still feel the sweet sugar burn of the candy on my tongue while I sipped my coffee. I had been up all night. Game of Thrones series marathon on HBOGO. I thought to myself.
“Spring Is Coming.
You Know Nothing John Snow.”
And then I sketched out the idea that eventually became this painting.

I guess the painterly influences are Georgia O’keefe and a little Salvador Dali.
But, I think to be honest, it’s lack of sleep, sugar and Game of Thrones.
